Cristiane Periera’s smile is as big and bright as the colorful mural on the MulataKitchen wall. Just as big and bright are the flavors that come out of her kitchen at Lake and Oak Park Avenue. A fixture in the Hemingway District since 2019, Pereira serves Brazilian specialties—such as Feijoada and Pão de Queijo—along with her signature empanadas (try the spinach and tomato and the guava and cheese!) and Brazilian coffee with housemade syrups.

Pictured here with baristas Mafer and Anaia, Pereira welcomes regulars and newcomers alike to MulataKitchen, 136 Oak Park Avenue, in the Hemingway District. “The business owners are all passionate and supportive of one another,” she says. “Each store offers something unique, and everyone is excited to share something good with the community.”
